More NZ!

Kia Ora!
March 29. We have been back in Wellington a week today and am currently sitting in the ‘Vowels’ Library of St.Oran’s College supervising the young ladies! The year 8’s are sitting at their laptops accessing their internet accounts(that are topped with money for printing and web access) to design and create posters as part of their English assignment – the youth of today hey! It’s unbelievable the level of technology they are taught here , yet NZ can’t provide unlimited internet or free wifi in McDonalds!!
Not too much has happened since we’ve come back. We got over the excitement of our flight and then it was back to work for me on Wednesday. Had Thursday off and the sun shone so we availed of a couple of the numerous waterside cafes at Queen’s Wharf in Wellington and enjoyed an afternoon of Pimms and Bluff oysters - again life is very tough!! Myself and Jo treated ourselves to some girly time at the hairdressers on Friday after work and came home with dead straight hair and got the ususal ‘It’s like having 2 new girls in the house’ remarks! So not to waste our new ‘dos’ we went out on the town Friday night and discovered a couple of new bars/ clubs and the obligatory kebab shop.
In one of the bars we entertained ourselves admiring the ‘back from the 80’s jacket’ on some random guy. We couldn’t believe they actually make Ghostbusters leather jackets! Wanting to get picture evidence of this hideous fashion accessory I stood infront of him and got Jo to try and pretend she was taking a picture of me but actually get him. We were laughing a little too much to accomplish this so Jarrod stepped in and went up to the guy and told him that his friend ‘me’ thought I recognised him from somewhere and could I get my picture taken with him! Moments later we had a picture with him but, unfortunately not the back of the jacket which was really what we wanted! Later on in the evening we went up for a dance up by the stage. I was like ‘Jo , why is the guy in the ghostbusters jacket singing and jumping around the stage like a lunatic?’ Turns out he was in the band! When Jarrod asked him if I could get my pic with him cus I thought he was someone famous he must have thought finally I’ve been recognised!!! It was very funny, but maybe one of those had to be there moments to really appreciate it!!
Saturday morning I headed to the pool with Damo and the girls and tried to make my body remember what it was like to swim- it’s been a while! After a few laps of hardwork I joined the girls in the ‘fun’ pool and fought motion sickness as we played in the giant wave that they turn on every half hour or so. Seriously it was like been stuck out at sea – very choppy sea! Two hours later , full of chlorine and that Saturday morning public pool feeling (wondering how much urine was in the water with all those kids) we headed back to Lyall Bay and got baking for Scarlett’s school fete. Buns were on the agenda – with green icing because we’re Irish! An hour and a lot of sticky mess later we had twenty four very tasty overloaded with sprinkles green buns!! Baking is so much more fun with a 4 and 7 year old!
Sunday was another beautiful day so after a Barbie for brekkie and a game of boules in the garden we loaded up the skateboards and headed to Oriental Bay where I managed to solo skate the whole way around and even go down a hill or two without any injury- quite a feat!! I achieved my personal challenge for the day to skate in and around a park bench and Jo accomplished hers of skating unaided – go team Jevans!! If anyone’s interested in skating and wants a really cool handmade board form NZ let us know , Jason I’m sure would be delighted to break into the international market with his handmade board sales! Next we skated to the bar and had a Pimms and then home for a yummy Sunday roast – thanks Damo!
Life here is too good to be true for the most part - real life and proper work will be a huge shock to the system so we are milking the good life when we can! I try to fit in some sort of routine into the day to make it more like real life , so last night we went to the gym , but then just incase we got disorientated by something normal we had to do something Kiwi for dinner – fush and chups and a beer under the moonlight on the beach – you gotta love it here!! Might actually have to bring this event home as a weekly dinner date! Although the weather may not be so kind on Greystones beach!!
